Whitening and sensitivity
Temporary sensitivity is the commonest side effect of whitening. It usually lasts from a few hours to a couple of days, and it is controlled reasonably well by adjusting the concentration, spacing the sessions and using a desensitising agent beforehand.
Who is not a good candidate
Patients with marked recession, exposed roots or heavily worn enamel can have a harder time of it. In those cases we either take a more gradual approach or suggest a different cosmetic option altogether.
